The lake is in the central fishing zone. Burbot, Cisco, Lake Trout, Lake Whitefish, Longnose Sucker, Northern Pike, Walleye, White Sucker and Yellow Perch can be found in Montreal Lake.

There are no parks or communities on the lake. Montreal Lake is partially within Montreal Lake 106 (Reserve).

The lake was officially named on 1948-10-07.
