Limestone Lake Recreation Site is 15km NNW and Deschambault Lake (South East Arm) Recreation Site is 11km NNW of Viney Lake.
Viney Lake was named after Frederick Harold Viney on 1952-12-11 as part of the GeoMemorial Commemorative Naming Program ran by the Sask Government.
