The lake is in the central fishing zone. Burbot, Cisco, Lake Whitefish, Northern Pike, Walleye, White Sucker and Yellow Perch can be found in Jan Lake.

Limestone Lake Recreation Site is 33km NNE, Granite Lake Recreation Site is 26km WNW, Hanson Lake Recreation Site is 29km N, Leaf Rapids Recreation Site is 21km WNW and Deschambault Lake (South East Arm) Recreation Site is 33km NE of Jan Lake.
