Hanson Lake

Hanson Lake is a massive lake in central Saskatchewan. It is located 59km W of Creighton, south of the Hanson Lake Road. Access to the mine and western shore of the lake is from Beaver Road.

The lake has a very interesting shape, with many different bays, islands, and channels.

Hanson Lake Recreation Site is located on the west side of the lake but has been closed and is no longer accessible. The rec. site used to have camping and a boat launch. With the closure of the recreation site, public access to the lake is very limited. There is an outfitter with some cabins, a small campground and a boat launch on the west side of the lake. There is also a primitive mud launch on the river that can be used to access the lake if water levels allow.

Walleye, Northern Pike, Cisco, Lake Whitefish, White Sucker and Yellow Perch can be found in Hanson Lake. Note: Part Of Bertrum Bay Within 1 Km Of Bad Carrot River Mouth Closed To Angling March 1 To May 31.

Olaf Hanson

Both Hanson Lake and Hanson Lake Road are named after Olaf Hanson. Northern Rover is a great book about Olaf's adventures in this part of Saskatchewan as well as the naming of the lake and the road.

Olaf Hanson spent much of his life prospecting and trapping in the area. He also helped lay out the rout of the Hanson Lake Road and worked on it's construction.

Geomemorial

There are 6 features on the lake named after soldiers through the Geomemorial Program.

Foran Mining

Foran is developing a number of different projects around Hanson Lake. Their mine and facilities on McIlvenna Bay are housing a large number of workers and it is one of the largest population centres in the area currently.

Inflows and Outflows

Several different creeks and rivers feed into the lake. Including Bad Carrot River which flows into Bertrum Bay from Bad Carrot Lake. The primary outflow of the lake is on the east side where it flows into Halfway Lake, then Attree Lake and the Sturgeon-Weir River.
