The lake is in the central fishing zone. Burbot, Cisco, Lake Whitefish, Longnose Sucker, Northern Pike, Walleye, White Sucker and Yellow Perch can be found in Pelican Lake.

Pelican Narrows (Village) is adjacent the lake. Pelican Lake is partially within Pelican Narrows 184B (Reserve) and partially within Sandy Narrows 184C (Reserve).

Limestone Lake Recreation Site is 44km NNE, Jan Lake Recreation Site is 23km NW and Deschambault Lake (South East Arm) Recreation Site is 42km NNE of Pelican Lake.

The lake was officially named on 1956-09-06.
