Katepwa Lake
Katepwa Lake is a large recreational and fishing lake located 88km ENE of Regina in the Qu'Appelle River Valley.
Highway 56 runs along the east and south of the lake, while Highway 619 runs along the southeastern end of the lake.
It is one of the four Fishing Lakes (Pasqua Lake, Echo Lake, Mission Lake, and Katepwa Lake). Katepwa Lake is the last of the Fishing Lakes in the chain and is downstream from Mission Lake. The water level on the lake is controlled by a dam located at the east end of the lake.
The Resort Village of the District of Katepwa borders most of the south and east shore of the lake. Two other communities; Taylor Beach and Lake View Beach are on the west shore along with the Carry the Kettle Reserve.
Katepwa Point Provincial Park is on the east side of the lake and has a public boat launch, change rooms, accessible paddling dock, and a really beautiful beach!
The Trans Canada trail runs along the eastern shore of the lake.
Like the rest of the fishing lakes a large number of different game species can be found in Katepwa Lake including: Bigmouth Buffalo, Burbot, Channel Catfish, Cisco, Common Carp, Lake Whitefish, Northern Pike, Walleye, White Sucker and Yellow Perch.
The name Katepwa Lake is of Cree origin and most likely originated from the word "Kahtapwao" meaning "What is calling?" in Cree.
