Common Carp are considered an invasive species in the province. They can be found in a number of lakes in the south of the province primarily in the Qu'Appelle River Valley.

Impact on native species

Common Carp are prolific breeders and can out-compete native species. In the Qu'Appelle River Valley, they are present in every lake where Big Mouth Buffalo can be found and share similar environments.

Introduction to Saskatchewan

Common Carp were introduced to the United States in the 1800s and worked their way into Saskatchewan through the river system.
