Barrier Lake

Barrier Lake is a medium-sized fishing and recreational lake located 65km ESE of Melfort and 13.1 km NNE of Archerwill. The lake is accessible from Highway 652 (gravel).

This is a very long and winding lake bordered by trees. It's a pretty spot with a resort, marina, and a few communities and subdivisions on the lake.

Northern Pike, Walleye, White Sucker, Common Carp and Yellow Perch can be found in Barrier Lake. The lake is occasionally stocked with Walleye.

The primary inflow is from the Barrier River on the west side of the lake. The primary outflow is from the east end of the lake and flows into the Red Deer River.

How it got its name

La Barrière appears on the earliest maps, indicating that the first French speaking traders in the area found Cree and Saulteaux fish nets or weirs on the river.
