Granite Lake Recreation Site is 17km WNW, Jan Lake Recreation Site is 5.4km NE and Leaf Rapids Recreation Site is 13km NW of Wurtz Lake.
Wurtz Lake was named after Andrew Herbert Wurtz on 1965-11-03 as part of the GeoMemorial Commemorative Naming Program ran by the Sask Government.
