Granite Lake Recreation Site is 18km W, Hanson Lake Recreation Site is 21km N and Leaf Rapids Recreation Site is 11km WNW of Phaneuf Lake.
Phaneuf Lake was named after Eugene Joseph Phaneuf on 1951-06-07 as part of the GeoMemorial Commemorative Naming Program ran by the Sask Government.
