Gem Lakes and Wadin Bay campgrounds to remain closed in 2026
Sask Parks has announced in a Facebook post that the Gem Lakes and Wadin Bay campgrounds will remain closed for the 2026 camping season as recovery work continues following last year's wildfires.
Both campgrounds were significantly impacted during the 2025 wildfire season, and additional time is needed to allow for cleanup, safety work, and natural forest regeneration before campers can return.
Day Use
While the two campgrounds will stay closed, both parks will still welcome visitors.
Day-use areas, trails, lakes, and other campgrounds will be open for the 2026 season, giving visitors plenty of opportunities to hike, fish, paddle, and explore. Those planning overnight stays can book sites at other campgrounds within each park through the provincial reservation system.
Wildfire Impact
The area around Gem Lakes in Narrow Hills Provincial Park saw especially heavy fire damage. Burned trees, damaged infrastructure, and safety concerns have required ongoing cleanup and restoration work.
Visitors will notice changes to the landscape in the area, including fewer trees, new growth, and sections of forest still recovering. These natural regeneration processes are an important part of the ecosystem's recovery.
Planning Your Trip
If you're heading to either park in 2026, it's a good idea to plan ahead and check campground availability early, as these closures may increase demand at other nearby sites.
