Good Spirit Lake
Good Spirit Lake is a massive (11,574 acre) recreational and fishing lake located 41km NNW of Yorkton. The south end of the lake is accessible from Highway 229, while the north end is accessible from Highway 746.
This is a very popular, family-friendly lake with a ton to do!
Good Spirit Lake Provincial Park borders the west and southern shores of the Lake. On the northeastern shore, there are several communities and resorts, including Burgis Beach, Canora Beach, Canora Beach Resort, Sandy Beach, Parkland Resort, and Bella Sands Resort.
The lake is known for its beautiful sandy beaches and well-developed Provincial Park. The park features over 200 campsites, a beautiful beach, picnic areas, a dog park, a boat launch, rental cabins, and hiking trails. One of the trails, the Dune Discovery trail traverses sand dunes along the south shore.
Northern Pike, Yellow Perch, Walleye, White Sucker and Common Carp can be found in Good Spirit Lake. It has been stocked with walleye in the past, but not since 1989.
The main inflow for the lake is Spirit Creek which flows into the north end. There is a dam on the south end of the lake that regulates the water level. Water flows from the dam into a tributary of the Whitesand River.
This lake has been personally visited by myself, Matthew Siemens.

How it got its name
The park is located along the western and southern shores of Good Spirit Lake.
Joseph Smith wintered at the site in 1757 and called the place "manto Lak", i.e., manitou or "good spirit" lake. The name is a translation of the Cree manitow.
Later in the winter of 1774-75, Matthew Cocking with the Hudson's Bay Company called the lake "Witch Lake". In the late 1800's it was called Devil's Lake by Robert Russell Smith due to a misunderstanding of the Cree word manitow.
