The lake is in the central fishing zone. Lake Whitefish, Northern Pike and Walleye can be found in Scales Lake.
There are no parks or communities on the lake.
Candle Lake Provincial Park is 24km NNW and Whiteswan Lake (Whelan Bay) Recreation Site is 23km WNW of Scales Lake.
Scales Lake was named after Alfred Eric Scales on 1958-11-06 as part of the GeoMemorial Commemorative Naming Program ran by the Sask Government.
