Athabasca Sand Dunes Provincial Park is adjacent to Lake Athabasca.

The lake was officially named on 1983-11-23. The name Lake Athabasca is of Plains Cree origin.

Did a ten-day trip up to the Sand Dunes a few years ago. We flew in from Stoney Rapids and hiked into the dunes. Trip of a lifetime!
