The lake is in the northern fishing zone. Burbot, Lake Trout, Lake Whitefish, Northern Pike, Walleye and White Sucker can be found in Carswell Lake.

Carswell Lake was named after James Richard Carswell on 1956-03-01 as part of the GeoMemorial Commemorative Naming Program ran by the Sask Government.
