March 31 Marks Key Deadlines for 2025-26 Saskatchewan Ice Fishing Season

Anglers across Saskatchewan should mark their calendars, this Tuesday March 31 is an important date that brings several deadlines for the province's fishing community.

For those fishing in the southern and central zones, March 31 is the final day of the ice fishing season. The same deadline applies to Waskesiu Lake in Prince Albert National Park, making it the last opportunity to get out on the ice in these areas before the season closes.

It's also the last day that the 2025-26 Saskatchewan fishing licence is valid. Anyone planning to fish after this date will need to ensure they've purchased a new licence for the upcoming season.

In addition to season closures, March 31 is the deadline to remove ice fishing shacks from lakes in the southern and central zones. Leaving shelters on the ice past this date can result in fines, and helps prevent environmental damage as ice conditions deteriorate.

While many areas are closing, anglers in the northern zone still have some time left. The fishing season there remains open until April 15, 2026, offering a couple more weeks of late-season ice fishing opportunities.

As always, anglers are encouraged to check regulations and stay safe on the ice, conditions can change quickly this time of year.
