Conservation officers investigate used oil dumped into ice fishing hole at Alsask Reservoir

Saskatchewan conservation officers are investigating after used oil was allegedly poured into an ice fishing hole at Alsask Reservoir.

According to a report by WestCentralOnline, the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety says officers were alerted on January 17 after garbage was reported left behind at the reservoir. When an officer attended the area, several containers were found, including an empty jug of used motor oil and another jug containing used oil.

Officials told WestCentralOnline that evidence at the scene suggested used motor oil had been deliberately discharged directly into an ice fishing hole. Other items located nearby included a pail of automatic transmission fluid, D-cell batteries, and a pair of rubber boots.

The ministry believes the incident occurred on January 16. Additional evidence has been collected and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact their local conservation officer or the Saskatchewan Turn In Poachers and Polluters (TIPP) line at 1-800-667-7561.
