The lake is in the central fishing zone. Lake Trout, Lake Whitefish, Northern Pike and Walleye can be found in Kemp Lake.

Lac La Ronge Provincial Park is 48km NE and Dickens Lake Recreation Site is 26km ESE of Kemp Lake.
Kemp Lake was named after Dennis Stuart Kemp on 1968-09-24 as part of the GeoMemorial Commemorative Naming Program ran by the Sask Government.
