The lake is in the central fishing zone. Lake Trout, Lake Whitefish, Northern Pike and Walleye can be found in Esmay Lake.
There are no parks or communities on the lake.
Devil Lake Recreation Site is 12km N, Dickens Lake Recreation Site is 3.9km WNW and Missinipe Recreation Site is 18km N of Esmay Lake.
Esmay Lake was named after Robert Segel William Esmay on 1955-04-07 as part of the GeoMemorial Commemorative Naming Program ran by the Sask Government.
