WSA Issues High Flow Advisory for Early This Week

The Water Security Agency (WSA) is issuing a High Flow Advisory for a broad area of Saskatchewan extending from the northwest near Buffalo Narrows to the southeast near Yorkton.

Forecasts indicate the potential for double-digit daytime temperatures and overnight lows remaining above freezing early next week. These conditions may lead to rapid snowmelt across the province.

Areas included in the advisory span communities such as Lloydminster, Meadow Lake, Buffalo Narrows, La Ronge, Prince Albert, the Battlefords, Watrous, Melfort, Nipawin, Tisdale, Hudson Bay, and Yorkton.

This accelerated melt may result in river flows rising more quickly and reaching higher levels than currently forecast, increasing the risk of localized overland flooding and ice jams.

The WSA will continue to closely monitor streamflows and lake levels and will provide updates as conditions change.

Residents are urged to exercise caution around water bodies, as conditions may change rapidly, including rising water levels, strong currents, and moving ice.

The Emergency Flood Damage Reduction Program (EFDRP) is available to support emergency flood protection measures for eligible communities, rural municipalities, businesses, non-profits, and rural property owners. Additional disaster-related support is also available through the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP).
