Saskatchewan Adding New Habitat Certificate Fee to Angling Licences for 2026-27 Season

Some new fees are coming for anglers in Saskatchewan starting in the 2026-27 season.

New Angling Habitat Certificate

Beginning with the 2026-27 angling season, anyone purchasing an angling licence in Saskatchewan will also need to purchase a new Angling Habitat Certificate.

The certificate will cost $20 for anglers buying an annual licence, while those purchasing one-day or three-day licences will need a $5 certificate.

The new fee is similar to the existing Wildlife Habitat Certificate that hunters already purchase alongside their hunting licences.

According to the provincial government, anglers who purchase both an annual hunting licence and an annual angling licence will only need to purchase one habitat certificate, rather than paying twice.

Saskatchewan residents who don't require a licence, those under 16, over 65 as of April 1, and veterans will not require a Certificate.

The province estimates the certificate will generate approximately $2.1 million annually, with the revenue directed to the Fish and Wildlife Development Fund.

That funding will support improvements such as modernization and expansion at provincial fish hatcheries, as well as long-term fish stocking and fisheries enhancement programs.

I know no one loves seeing new fees, but I am excited to see what impact this new money has on the stocking program in the province. The Saskatchewan Fish Hatchery does some amazing work, and I'm sure will benefit greatly from additional funding.
