Partial lifting of area closures in Prince Albert National Park
Great news! A number of the area closures in the north of the Prince Albert National Park have been lifted as of August 23, 2025. The Kingsmere Wilderness Area was originally closed due to encounters with aggressive bears. Later the entire north of the park was closed due to wildfire risk.
As of Aug. 23, 2025 the following area closures are lifted:
- Crean lake & area
- Hanging Heart Lakes & area
- Nova & Osten areas
- Kingsmere Wilderness Area
Note: There is still an area closure for Zone 4 Random Backcountry Camping which includes Wabeno, Wassegam, and Tikiska Lakes due to wildfire risk.
New Restriction
Due to several encounters with aggressive bears in the Kingsmere area there is a new restriction for the Kingsmere Wilderness Area prohibiting all dogs. This includes:
- the Kingsmere Lake trail system
- day use areas and campgrounds
- parking lot
- rail cart
- boat launch
- Kingsmere Lake (including in boats) and all other areas commonly used for day use.
Violators face a maximum penalty of $25,000 under the Canada National Parks Act.
