Tragic Ice Incident at Makwa Lake

On the morning of November 22, 2025, a person fell through the ice on Makwa Lake. The St. Walburg and District Fire Rescue, Lloydminster Rescue Squad, Loon Lake Fire Department, and local RCMP all responded to the incident. Sadly, the individual could not be saved, but they were recovered within an hour thanks to the rapid response of these teams.

This is a very dangerous time of year on the ice, as many lakes are just starting to freeze. Please stay safe and look out for one another.
