Water Level is below target on Emma, Christopher and Anglin Lake - Pump shut off
The Lakeland District FB Page shared an update from the Water Security Agency (WSA) has released an update on lake levels and pumping activity in the Lakeland District on Aug. 5, 2025.
As of August 5, 2025, water levels were:
- Anglin Lake: 515.285 m
- Emma Lake: 515.304 m
- Christopher Lake: 514.440 m
These levels are out of the intended operating ranges for all three lakes. Due to these declining levels the WSA shut off the pump on Anglin Lake on July 29, 2025.
The WSA is monitoring the situation and will provide updates as conditions change.
Managing the water levels
The water levels in Anglin Lake, Emma Lake, and Christopher Lake are the result of engineered water management. The construction of the Spruce River Dam in 1960 downstream of Anglin Lake created the expanded Anglin Lake we see today.
Water is typically pumped from Anglin Lake into Emma Lake via the Emma Lake Diversion Channel, which passes through several smaller lakes. The pump station is located about 1 km northeast of the Spruce River Dam. From there, water flows from Emma Lake into Christopher Lake through the Christopher Lake Diversion Channel, helping regulate levels across the system.
