The lake is in the northern fishing zone. Lake Trout, Lake Whitefish and Northern Pike can be found in Kilgaard Lake.

Kilgaard Lake was named after Eric Kilgaard on 1954-05-06 as part of the GeoMemorial Commemorative Naming Program ran by the Sask Government.
