The lake is in the central fishing zone. Lake Whitefish, Northern Pike and Walleye can be found in Cotter Lake.
There are no parks or communities on the lake.
Besnard Lake Recreation Site is 20km NW of Cotter Lake.
Cotter Lake was named after David Grenfell Cotter on 1951-06-07 as part of the GeoMemorial Commemorative Naming Program ran by the Sask Government.
