Do nothing when fishing topwater lures

There’s nothing quite as exhilarating as using a floating surface topwater lure and watching a large northern pike or trout explode on the surface and bite the lure. When fishing top waters, the goal is to do as little as possible. Cast it out, and leave it alone, allowing a predator fish to track it, and get annoyed enough to eat it. Once a fish strikes a topwater lure, tighten up the line by reeling steadily until the rod bends. A quick hookset will pull the lure away from the fish and you’ll miss it.
