- PFR-Changing directions-July 11-I’m Jason Matity with getfishing.ca. Do you ever notice when you’re fishing water 10 feet or deeper and you’re reeling in your lure that fish often strike right by the boat? That’s because of the change of direction. When your lure is far away from the boat, it often maintains itself in a linear path. Only when the lure starts to turn upward towards the boat, will the fish that’s been following often for the entire length of the cast realize that the meal that the meal is about to escape. And that’s when you need to be ready to set the hook on a big walleye or northern pike.
