Upper Makwa Lake is a small (281 acre) lake located 7.1km W of Loon Lake (Village) and 55km W of Meadow Lake (City). The lake is partially within Makwa Lake 129B (Reserve).

The lake was officially named on 1973-01-17. The name Upper Makwa Lake is of Cree origin.
