Amisk Lake Recreation Site is 30km E, Meridian Creek Recreation Site is 33km ENE, Neso Lake Provincial Park is 8km SW and Twin Lakes Provincial Park is 12km WSW of Athapapuskow Lake.
The lake was officially named on 1924-03-31. The name Athapapuskow Lake is of Cree origin.
