The lake is in the central fishing zone. Burbot, Cisco, Lake Trout, Lake Whitefish, Longnose Sucker, Northern Pike, Walleye, White Sucker and Yellow Perch can be found in Cold Lake.

Cold Lake Provincial Park is adjacent the lake and Meadow Lake Provincial Park is adjacent the lake. Cold Lake is partially within Cold Lake 149B (Reserve) and partially within Cold Lake 149A (Reserve).

The lake was officially named on 1945-07-28.
