Ajawaan Lake

Ajawaan Lake is a small (134-acre) lake within Prince Albert National Park. It's most well-known for being the home of Grey Owl from 1932 to 1938. His cabin is the primary destination on the lake. The cabin has become a tourist attraction in its own right and is also the endpoint of the very popular 20-kilometre Grey Owl Trail. Due to its popularity, Ajawaan is probably one of the most visited (and photographed) back-country lakes in Saskatchewan!

The lake is located just 700 metres north of Kingsmere Lake and can be accessed by portage from Kingsmere Lake or the Grey Owl Trail. The Grey Owl Trail starts at the Kingsmere River and follows the west side of Kingsmere Lake before continuing around the south end of Ajawaan Lake and ending at the cabin.

The Northend Campground is a short hike from Ajawaan and Grey Owl's Cabin.

I have seen walleye mentioned in Ajawaan, if you know of any other species of fish please let me know!

This lake has been personally visited by myself, Matthew Siemens.

Grey Owl's Cabin (Beaver Lodge)

Possibly the most famous cabin in Saskatchewan. It is certainly one of the most photographed! This restored cabin was the home of the naturalist Archibald Belaney commonly known as Grey Owl from 1932 to 1938. An opening under one wall allowed his beavers to enter the cabin and build a lodge inside.

A second cabin higher up the hill was built for Anahareo (Grey Owl's wife) who became tired of sharing a cabin with beavers.
