Hyde area in the Qu'appelle Valley. South of Melville and north of Grenfell, Saskatchewan
We headed west from the #47 in the Qu'appelle Valley, hoping to fly our drones from our favorite viewpoint on Hyde Hill, but the road was closed. So, we decided to fly from the bottom where the Rainbow Bridge is over the Qu'appelle River. At the end of the video, I left the sound on; you'll hear the ice breaking and the Canadian Geese in the background. Founded in 1887, George Audley Edward Hyde established in the North West Territories, prior to Saskatchewan becoming a province in 1905. Hyde was meant to be an English-style estate and served as a small hub with a post office, ice house, hotel, store, and horse-drawn passenger service to Grenfell. The village failed to thrive long-term, largely due to a lack of investment and the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) selecting a route that bypassed it. Hyde was situated on the north side of the scenic, glacier-carved Qu'Appelle Valley. Today, a historic marker notes the site of the former village. We've been in this area many times and learned a lot of history; however, I couldn't find the location of the historic marker.Song Credit Cover: It Must Have Been Love Epic Cinematic Orchestral Cover by Roxette, Quickening - Steve Horner & Fiona Joy Hawkins.
