Ongoing Investigation in Saskatoon on the South Saskatchewan River (Updated June 23rd)

The Saskatoon Police Service has released additional information regarding the ongoing search for a jet ski operator who went over the weir on the South Saskatchewan River on June 20.

Police have identified the operator as 32-year-old Adan Vargas Salvador, who was visiting Saskatchewan from Mexico. According to police, his family has requested that his name and photograph be released publicly.

Emergency crews responded after receiving numerous reports of a jet ski rider in distress near the weir at approximately 4:46 p.m. on Saturday, June 20. The response involved members of the Saskatoon Fire Department's water rescue team, along with the Saskatoon Police Service Aerial Support Unit, Forensic Identification Section, Missing Person Unit, and Tactical Support Unit.

Search efforts have included the use of specialized rescue vessels, drones, aircraft, and watercraft to search the river and surrounding riverbanks.

Police say they remain in contact with the family and that the search for Adan Salvador continues along the South Saskatchewan River.

Authorities are also reminding the public about the dangers associated with the river and the weir, particularly during periods of high water. Residents are advised never to approach the weir and to view it only from designated areas along Spadina Crescent East.
