Mandatory AIS Certificate Permit Required in PA National Park

Starting April 15, 2025, all watercraft entering waters in Prince Albert National Park require a mandatory AIS certification permit. The permit is good for the entire boating season and must be kept with you whenever you are using your watercraft. (A digital copy on a mobile device is also acceptable.)

These permits are an important part of protecting the beautiful lakes of the park from aquatic invasive species that threaten them. In order to be issued a permit, one of the following must be true:

  • The watercraft has not been used outside of Saskatchewan in the past 45 days.
  • The watercraft was inspected and/or decontaminated by Parks Canada staff.

The good news is this permit is free and easily available from the following locations:

  • East or South Entry Gates
  • Visitor centre
  • One of the three marinas
  • Self-certification stations located at boat launches or day-use areas (as of April 2nd there was a station at Namekus but not at Sandy Lake.)

Parks staff are already checking for these, so make sure you fill yours in and keep a copy with your watercraft. I didn't even have my canoe off the truck before I was being asked for my permit. Thanks to all the parks staff who are keeping our lakes safe!
